About Me

What could you possibly want to know about the babbling baboon? My name is Bill and I’m a 45-year old man trying to find his way in the world. At the core I’m just like you. I want basically the same things as you do, the same things as most people want. I am blessed to have a home where I feel safe and secure, someone to love who loves me in return, friends, family, health, and happiness.

For most of my life I have felt connected to a great mind, a kind and peaceful presence that I have come to know as God. I have had many well-intentioned people tell me about God. I have read the Bible and attended the church services of countless Christian denominations trying to know him better. I have also heard the voice of God in my own heart revealing deep truths that often contradict what I have been told and have read.

In this blog I want to write about some of these truths because I want to be understood and also because I believe I have an obligation to others who might be looking for an alternative to the dogma and hypocrisy inherent in today’s mainstream religions. Religion has its place, but I believe God speaks through individuals, revealing himself as he sees fit.

Some of my ideas are less spiritual and more philosophical. Others are neither, and may just be random thoughts that somehow manage to find their way out of my mind, through my fingertips, onto the keyboard and into the ether. Sometimes I am just plain silly. Read my words and take them for what they are worth, in the way they are intended.

Please feel free to comment on my ideas, but try to be constructive. If you agree, tell me why. If you do not agree, I respect that. If my ideas cannot withstand a balanced and reasonable rebuttal, perhaps I need to revise them. Unexamined faith is worthless. Unchallenged ideas are weak. Question everything and hold fast to what remains so that in the end you know not only what you believe but also why you believe it. This is the foundation for true wisdom.

Reading this page, a couple quotes came to mind:

I believe in God, only I spell it Nature. ~Frank Lloyd Wright

It is full of interest. It has noble poetry in it; and some clever fables; and some blood-drenched history; and some good morals; and a wealth of obscenity; and upwards of a thousand lies. ~Mark Twain, commenting on the Bible

Jim – I appreciate you kindness, but I must emphasize that I am only an antenna. It is God – in this case choosing to act as my muse – that sends the message. The ideas belong to her, but the way I express them is my choice. I am glad you feel inspired. The greatest compliment I can imagine is to be accused of provoking a thought or two. Thanks!
